Short version: the Spotless Mac app has no analytics, telemetry or ads and never uploads your files. This website uses Google Ads measurement, and we keep the details you give us when you request the trial or buy a license.
The Spotless app
The app scans and cleans your Mac locally. It contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising SDKs, and it never uploads your files, file names or scan results.
The app only connects to the internet for the following, always over HTTPS:
- License (spotless.reistudio.dev/api/license): when you activate, refresh (about every 14 days) or deactivate a license. Sent: your license key, a one-way hashed device identifier derived from your Mac's hardware ID (it can't be turned back into the hardware ID), the device name you see in macOS, and the app and macOS versions.
- Update checks (our release list, hosted on Supabase): at launch, every 6 hours and when you choose Check for Updates. Sent: only the platform (macOS) and release channel.
- Downloading an update you accepted: the release file and its checksum list, from our release server.
- The optional Apple Intelligence profile (spotless.reistudio.dev/api/license/profile): when you create it, the app sends the unsigned profile, which lists the Apple Intelligence features you chose to turn off, so our server can sign it. Nothing else is sent, and we don't store it.
Website measurement (Google Ads)
This website uses the Google tag to measure how our ads perform: for example which ad brought a visitor, and whether a visit led to a purchase. Google may set cookies and process your IP address and browser information for this.
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked first, and these cookies are only used after you accept. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” below or in the footer. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
Free trial form
When you request the trial we collect your email address, and optionally your name and what you mainly use your Mac for, plus whether you agreed to receive tips and product updates. We also record the language you used, the page and ad campaign that brought you (UTM parameters and ad click IDs), your browser's user agent and your IP address.
We use this to email you the download link, to send tips only if you opted in, and to understand which campaigns work.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), our merchant of record, which also calculates taxes and issues receipts. We never see your card details. We receive the order details needed to deliver your license, such as your email address, plan, amount, currency and country, plus the ad campaign that led to the purchase.
License key recovery
If you use “Lost your license key?”, the email you enter is only used to look up your purchase and send your keys to that same address. We don't confirm on the page whether an email has a purchase.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers. We don't sell your personal data.
- Cloudflare: hosting this website and its API, and sending our emails
- Polar: payments, receipts, license keys and device activations
- Supabase: storing trial sign-ups and the list of app releases
- Google: ad measurement on this website
How long we keep it
Trial sign-ups are kept until you ask us to delete them. Purchase and license records are kept for as long as your license exists and as required by tax law. Device activations are removed when you deactivate a Mac.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, withdraw consent to cookies, or stop marketing emails at any time (every marketing email has an unsubscribe link). Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to processing or to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
